NBSC Festival 2025 Concert Artist
Brian Doerksen
We are so pleased to have songwriter, recording artist and songwriting instructor, Canada’s own Brian Doerksen, as part of our online Festival 2025 line-up of inspiring events! His songs are known and sung internationally in faith communities of all kinds. Songs like, ‘Your Faithfulness’, ‘Come Now is the Time to Worship’, and ‘Refiner’s Fire’, have been known and loved for many years.

Brian has received many awards. In 2007 he received six (6!) Covenant Awards (Canada’s Gospel Music Association Awards) including, ‘Artist of the Year’, ‘Album of the Year’, and ‘Song of the Year’. In 2008 he received a JUNO award for ‘Holy God’ (Contemporary Christian Gospel Album of the Year). In 2020 he was nominated for the third time for a JUNO award for his album, ‘The Heart of Christmas,’ which contains thirteen original Christmas songs.

Brian lived in the UK for over two years in the 1990’s mentoring worship leaders and songwriters in the Vineyard Churches. The album, ‘You Shine’, was produced in 2002 and was recorded live in Dublin. He has done a series of folk-rock songs on the Psalms with a group called the SHIYR poets. These settings do not censor the difficult verses of lament and anger found in the Psalms. Scripture is Brian’s greatest inspiration, and his love of nature often shines through, along with a theme of surrender and love.

Brian’s website reveals the importance of his wife and family to him. Front and centre are pictures of Joyce, his wife of almost 40 years. Together they have four daughters, and two sons with Fragile X Syndrome. Brian’s music often reflects the journey he and his wife have been on with their children, especially their special needs sons. His songs are full of comfort for the journey.

Brian will share a selection of his songs, and be joined in conversation with Linnea Good, at the close of our Saturday festival sessions, February 1, 2025. This will be artist to artist, worship leader to worship leader, in conversation. You won’t want to miss this inspiring time of performance and sharing what lies at the heart of worship.

Brian is touring Europe and Canada in 2024.

Thanks so much, Brian, for accepting our invitation!
