Embodying the Story
with Beth Mattinson
Saturday, Mar 21/26 - 9-10:30am (pacific)

Event Handouts (stay tuned)
God created us to move!  But how often do we stop to think about what our bodies are doing while we talk or even move?

We all use body language – some more than others. And we all move in ways that we often take for granted. Any motion is impacted by our emotions, nerves, stress, and what physical thing we want to accomplish.

In this “embodied” workshop, we will actively work on being aware of what is going on in our bodies and how that influences the way we tell a story.

We will spend time working with a biblical story, paying attention to body expressions and body movement within it, and how we can bring these into our telling of the story.

Plus, we will work with movement as a technique to learn and tell the story by heart. The hope is that by intentionally incorporating movement into storytelling it will help us not only engage physically but also create a deeper connection to the narrative, making it a truly embodied experience.

In addition, it will help the story come alive, making it more memorable and meaningful to the listeners.  So put on some comfortable clothes and join us as we come together with God, “For in God we live and move and have our being.” [Romans 17:28]

Leadership: Beth Mattinson

Beth has always been interested in movement and dance.  She has performed and taught dance, exercise classes, mime and clown ministry at various times in her life.

She was ordained as a minister in the Presbyterian Church in Canada in 2005; became a certified instructor with Revelation Wellness in 2021; and became a certified instructor with Dance Nova Scotia’s program “Dance for Health: Seniors” in 2023.

She founded an intergenerational group called “The Word in Motion” (drama, clowning, puppetry) while ministering in PEI; a “Faith and Movement” class in her last ministry in NS before retiring; along with leading Dance for Health: Seniors classes.

She truly believes God created us to use our whole being – heart, soul, strength, and mind – not only as we love God, but also as we worship and share the Gospel with others.
